Lula Mae Dickens Taylor Loflin

Lula Mae Dickens Taylor Loflin, 88, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, of the Darlington community, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Lula was born June 28, 1923 in Boykins, VA, the daughter of the late James Raleigh Dickens, Sr. and Lucy Warren Dickens. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Chairman L. Loflin and her brother, James Raleigh ''J.R.'' Dickens, Jr.

She was retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. after many years of service. Lula was a long-time member of Community Center Baptist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and church treasurer.

Lula is survived by her daughter, Blenda Robertson and her husband, Jimmy, of Darlington; her son, Wade Taylor and his wife, Trudi, of Roanoke Rapids; five grandchildren, Donna Pearson and her husband, Jay, Jay Robertson and his wife, Jan, Rodney Robertson and his wife, Trina, Penny Aycock and her husband, Neil, and Julie Collier and her husband, Mike; ten great-grandchildren, Heather Pruter and her husband, Dallas, Brittany Roberson and her husband, Daniel, Ben Pearson, Jayme Robertson, Brooke Robertson, Bailey Robertson, Zack Wilson, Cameron Wilson, Caryn Aycock, and Damian Collier; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth ''Eib'' Alford of Darlington and Peggy Auten and her husband, Dean, of Columbia, SC; five brothers, Grady Dickens and his wife, Mary Lou, of Charlotte, Aubrey Dickens and his wife, Julia, of Lake Gaston, Winford Dickens and his wife, Rose, also of Lake Gaston, Johnny Dickens and his wife, Jean, of Williamston, and Perry Dickens and his wife, Hortense, of Roanoke Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 25, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Community Center Baptist Church in Darlington with Rev. Aaron Pendley and Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
